09/13/2024 Social Media Threats |

On 9/12/2024 at approximately 11:15pm the Carter County Sheriff's Office received information of a snapchat threat that was circulating our area. This threat was a repost of another school threat outside of our Carter County School District area, but mentioned Ellsinore. Our office immediately began investigating the situation. We requested assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, local law enforcement as well as began working with other outside agencies. It has been found so far that several southern Missouri School districts are receiving threats similar to the one reported. Several law enforcement agencies are actively investigating these threats. Notification to the Ellsinore School District has been made, as well as other local school districts. It is being reported that many threats are reposts of another threat from outside our area. This chain of reposting has now came to our area we believe. At this time, we have not received credible information that a threat is imminent but we are continuing to actively investigate. According to Missouri's school violence reporting system "Courage-2-report," multiple school shooting threats are circulating the country on social media platforms. Please encourage your children to not repost threatening TikTok's or snap chat messages and to please report all threatening behavior to the local law enforcement immediately. Our office along with other local law enforcement agencies will be present and patrolling the school districts in our area, and will continue to work closely with school officials.
